The BrinkTower

The Netherlands’ very first energy-positive high-rise!

This striking tower will stand out for its remarkable sustainable features, such as energy generation and abundant green spaces, making it a vibrant and green vertical neighborhood focused on social cohesion.

In Amsterdam-Noord, Cordeel is constructing the BrinkToren, which will complete the high-rise skyline along Overhoeks. This exceptionally sustainable residential tower will house around 400 rental apartments across 28 floors, reaching a height of 90 meters.

The tower is set to help reduce Amsterdam’s housing shortage by offering future residents and locals a place to live, work, study, start businesses, and relax starting in 2025.

BrinkToren is not only designed with a strong focus on social quality and resident well-being, but also pushes the boundaries of sustainability. Its technical concept is exceptionally future-proof, as evidenced by its negative EPC score and designation as the first energy-positive residential tower in the Netherlands. This is achieved through features like a thermal energy storage system (WKO) for heating and cooling, vertical solar panels on the façades and roof for energy generation, and polder roofs for water retention, green inner courtyards, and rooftop terraces. The charging stations in the parking garage are bi-directional, meaning they can both draw and store energy from wind and solar power, easing pressure on the grid and acting as flexible storage.

Faster and safer construction
At BrinkToren, Cordeel Amsterdam demonstrates its expertise in high-rise construction in dense urban areas. The site poses major logistical challenges due to its limited space. By using prefabricated elements, many construction activities — and their associated risks — are moved off-site into a controlled environment. This leads to higher build quality, faster turnaround times, and earlier handover to clients, while minimizing nuisance to the city and surrounding neighborhood.

To install the exterior sandwich panels, a 20-ton spreader beam with additional lifting points and two lifting yokes will be used. Adjustability is achieved with a chain hoist, ensuring the elements can be placed efficiently and safely.
